Dear Arizona Community College Library Colleagues (ACCLC),

You are invited to join your MCCCD Library Faculty colleagues for:

Ask Workshop Back to Basics Registration Image.png

Participants: You! MCCCD Library Faculty and our friends from ACCLC Libraries

Workshop Overview: Does your library offer a chat service? Have you thought about it? This event may be for you! We'd like to invite our ACCLC colleagues to join us at our annual Ask a Librarian workshop. This year we are reflecting on the best practices for providing effective virtual reference service.

We will kick off the workshop by learning from Ann Roselle of Phoenix College. Ann focused her recent Faculty Evaluation Plan (FEP) on the skills and strategies for working with students from all colleges in the Maricopa District District. Attendees will then engage in a variety of activities, such as Ask a Librarian Theater (an interactive and funny way to learn about intentional chatting through reading transcripts aloud), paired-peer transcript evaluation, and discussion to reinforce the concepts learned. To cap the session, we will hear from Zoe Luter of Mesa Community College and the outcomes of her fall 2018 sabbatical and the pedagogical practices we can apply in various library contexts. Librarians will leave the session with strategies and skills for how to create more successful chat sessions.

  • Please register by Friday, January 11, 2019. Registration is limited, so register early to ensure your spot! There is no cost to attend.

  • BYOB (Bring your own beverage). Light refreshments will be provided by the Ask a Librarian committee.
